After the Tornadoes: How to Give Help (and How to Get Help)

May 21, 2013

Optometry Cares®-The AOA Foundation is responding to calls about Oklahoma from AOA member optometrists regarding the devastating losses that occurred as a result of the tornado that hit Oklahoma City and Moore on Monday, May 20. As we learn more about the damages occurring in our members’ offices, homes, and communities, we anticipate some immeasurable losses. Optometry’s Fund for Disaster Relief stands ready to assist those in need and those most vulnerable.

Affected optometrists may contact their state association or Optometry Cares® (800-365-2219) directly to initiate financial assistance.

On a personal note, Saundra Naifeh, executive director, Oklahoma Association of Optometric Physicians, said, “The OAOP has made contact with almost all optometrists and staff members. They are safe! Our office and staff are not in the immediate area and all safe. You can count on the OAOP family springing to action, so watch for requests for you to be a part. Rebuilding is going to be a long process and we will get many opportunities to focus on particulars. Thank you for your support!”
